Renewable Purchase Obligation

 

RPO was defined under Section 86(1) (e) of the Electricity Act 2003 ('EA 2003') and National Tariff Policy 2006

 

The Ministry of Power has prescribed a guiding RPO trajectory (targets till 2030) for all states, however, most states have their own RPO framework and targets as of now. The RPO framework broadly includes defining obligated entity(ies), sources of renewable energy, annual targets, data reporting on compliance and process of compliance verification along with penalties in case of non-compliance.

 

This portal is Prayas (Energy Group's) effort to enable comparative analysis of the RPO framework viz. regulations, targets and compliance across states further broken down across DISCOMs, years, and various RPO types.
